Electric Tremor

For twenty years I have been involved in the alternative music scene and for twenty years I have been coming to Germany.
For the first time last weekend I felt like I was unwelcome.
Why? Familientreffen Fesival in Sandersleben. Familientreffen is a name that suggests, even exploits the idea of"family".
After many years of persuasion from annual visitors I decided to go,
not only because of the recommendations but also because of my love for Electronic Body Music.
I arrived on Thursday, pitched my tent, in the sweltering heat, and enjoyed the company of old friends and proceeded to party!
A great start to a new festival for me.
On Friday I made some new friends from Sweden and I also met some of my old German friends.
Later on, however, I was refused entry to the festival due to my "Nazi" tattoos.
I have one Schwarze Sonne on my chest and one Death In June tattoo on my right side.
I was told both were illegal in Germany which is incorrect (see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strafgesetzbuch_section_86a)
I returned to my friends and told them this and they thought I was joking!
I gained entry later that night with help of my English and Swedish friends
but later on the organiser told the barman not to take my drink orders as I was a Nazi!
I asked for an explanation but none was forthcoming. My friends, who are also good friends of the organiser,
tried on my behalf to resolve the situation but they too were unsuccessful.
I left the festival on Saturday evening after more provocation and feeble accusations.

I have been promoting clubs and concerts in Dublin for over fifteen years, have DJ'd in many clubs in Germany
and have been to most of the underground festivals in Germany and made many friends in the process.
But I have never encountered such ignorance and thuggery from any organisation.

On the Electric Tremor organisation website you can see the catchprase: "EBM IS NON-POLITICAL".
It didn't feel like that to me.

sport a German Stahlhelm with a lighting strike though it. Does that remind you of anything?
Many of their affiliates and they themelves use German WWII imagery and phrases
(for example: EBM Elite Munchen, EBM Panzer Division Leipzig)
If you want to be on their mailing list you can sign up to "Feldpostbrief". Mail to and from troops at the front!
Do you see what I'm getting at?


This is not a personal attack on any individual or website. I am just trying to point out a fundamental problem within a small scene.
WHAT MAKES SOMEONE POLITICAL? What makes someone Fascist, Communist or otherwise? How can you tell? Tattoos? Haircuts? Fashion?
This is a question that will never be resolved, in Germany at least, but it needs to be addressed or else
people like me face the possibilty of being banned from a festival unjustly.

Ein großes DANKE an die ganze Orgi-Crew für das FT 6 .... war spitze und hat wie immer sehr viel Spaß gemacht !! Alles hat gepaßt ... sogar das Wetter :D

Seid gegrüßt! Erstmal ein ein aufrichtigen Gruß und ein großes Dankeschön an alle die dieses geniale Treffen organisierten. Natürlich auch an alle die dabei gewesen sind. Es war wiedermal ein Traum. Doch leider viel zu kurz. Es hat alles gepasst.
Wir freuen uns schon auf das nächste Treffen...

Erstmal ein GROSSES Dankeschön für die tollen 4 Tage Familientreffen !!!

Mekkereien, Verbesserungen, Kritik......Blablabla wird es immer geben, aber wie auch immer.....man muss es erstmal besser machen um die Klappe zuweit aufzureißen!

Schade fand ich es nur für die Bands, die gerade zu der Zeit spielten als das Deutschlandspiel lief.

....nun muss ich nur noch rausbekommen wie der Rasensprengroboter vom Sportplatz funktioniert :-D....u. dann ist alles schick.

Tschau EBM-Kameraden/-inen bis nächstes Jahr in alter Frische !!!
